Fairy Godmothers has been helping families with homebased childcare in the Rodney and North Shore areas for 11 years. Our educators are referred to as “fairies” because they have that special magic quality when it comes to caring for children in their homes.
Fairy Godmothers is now part of a larger network of privately owned homebased care services that span across the Auckland Region. It is our aim to match all our prospective families with the best suited educators who will share similar values, traditions and interests to care for their children. Being part of a chartered network means that like other licensed and chartered ECE services, home-based care networks receive government funding and operate within education and other relevant legal parameters. Our educators
Home-based care is different to other early childhood options as your child is cared for by one of our Educators in a home environment with smaller ratios (4:1). This enables our carers to have more flexibility with their hours and they can therefore cater more to each family's individual needs
Home-based childcare differs from the more informal arrangement you may have with a babysitter or nanny in that our Educators are in many instances qualified early childhood teachers and through assistance and support from our ECE qualified coordinators, our educators receive ongoing support and training in the form of professional development in order to maintain a high quality well monitored learning environment for your child
Children benefit in homebased care as it is less stressful and less overwhelming than a mainstream early childhood centre. There are also more opportunities to be spontaneous with outings and activities that follow children’s interests. Homebased children on average get to experience more outdoor education in different natural settings through forest walks, park visits and fun at the beach
Our educators and coordinators become your extended family. They will care for your child as if they were their own. Fairy Godmothers is about building strong relationships between educators, coordinators and families to support children. Our coordinators will work to strengthen these relationships – providing support to educators and keeping in regular contact with families to receive feedback for both parties.
One of our coordinators will meet with you to find an educator who matches your requirements (relating to culture, language, religion, education and times you require care) you have for your child.
If you already have an informal care arrangement, you and your carer can benefit from our programme. We also welcome parents who want to stay home with their child and become an educator for additional children.
If you want to train for an educator role, we will facilitate helping you with your studies. Our programme is also open to people with or without experience.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done for our child. He truly has learnt a lot being with you. He is a confident boy who has patience with younger children and is no longer shy talking to “bigger kids” or adults. He is going to miss you a lot and so will we. Thank you.”
“I would like to thank you so much for our daughters care. It has been very nice knowing such caring people. It’s sad she is leaving FGI (moving towns) since she has best memories of good friends and above all loving and caring care educators. She’s so happy when she is at her care educator’s house. She can’t stop talking about their caring filled with love and knowledge. I hope she finds it the same where she is going. Keep up the best standard FGI ‘Fairy Golden Godmothers’. God bless you all.”
“We can only say we love Fairy Godmothers and we love our care educator! She is like a second mummy to our daughter. H is always mentioning her care educator and the other kids in care. We are happy with H’s progress. Her care educator is a very loving carer and we feel lucky to have her look after H and to meet her as well. It’s not easy to trust someone else when it comes to your child but with our carer, we TRUST her straight up!”
“Our son has been with FGI for over a year now, since we moved here to the Hibiscus Coast. We are impressed with his caregiver and how she lovingly cares for our son. She is friendly and professional and we value her experience with young children. Our son is thriving on the combination of in-home care, including outings to activities such as library story time, play group and music classes. It is reassuring as parents to know that he is receiving kind and gentle guidance.”
“I wish to take this opportunity to thank Fairy Godmothers tam and staff in general for their respect and support throughout my 1.5 years of time. My son gained and learnt a lot from you and will cherish throughout his future.”
“M has done an awesome job of taking care of Zoe and has truly welcomed her into her home and family. I’m so grateful for the help she has given us. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend your organisation to anyone”
“I just have to say how lovely it feels knowing my children adore coming to your place. Fairy Godmothers and all their carers are just wonderful. I know they are getting the best care and love possible which makes having to work that much easier. A+ A+ A+”
